Three experiments investigated the effects of varying the conditioned stimulus (CS) duration between training and extinction. Ring doves (Streptopelia risoria) were autoshaped on a fixed CS-unconditioned stimulus (US) interval and extinguished with CS presentations that were longer, shorter, or the same as the training duration. During a subsequent test session, the training CS duration was reintroduced. Results suggest that the cessation of responding during an extinction session is controlled by generalization of excitation between the training and extinction CSs and by the number of nonreinforced CS presentations. Transfer of extinction to the training CS is controlled by the similarity between the extinction and training CSs. Extinction learning is temporally specific. The morphologic changes and signal intensity of the spinal cord on preoperative magnetic resonance images were correlated with postoperative outcomes in 74 patients undergoing decompressive cervical surgery for compressive myelopathy. The transverse area of the spinal cord on T1-weighted images at the level of maximum compression was closely correlated with the severity of myelopathy, duration of disease, and recovery rate as determined by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association score. In patients with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament or cervical spondylotic myelopathy, the increased intramedullary T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging signal at the site of maximal cord compression and duration of disease significantly influenced the rate of recovery. A multiple regression equation was then developed with these three variables to predict surgical outcomes.  相似文献

An applicability of quinone biomarker to the analysis of hillslope runoff was investigated. At first, quinone profiles of three streams as well as a hillslope runoff in a forested headwater catchment were compared. The quinone composition of hillslope runoff differed from others. Moreover, there were remarkable differences in quinone profile of hillslope runoff under different rainfall conditions. Then, the behavior of quinone biomarker during the increase and decrease of hillslope runoff after a rainfall event was examined. The fractional changes in Q-9 (H2), Q-10 (H2), Q-11, MK-6 and MK-10 suggested the effect of interflow.  相似文献

One of the most promising approaches for high speed networks for integrated service applications is fast packet switching, or ATM (asynchronous transfer mode). ATM can be characterized by very high speed transmission links and simple, hard-wired protocols within a network. To match the transmission speed of the network links, and to minimize the overhead due to the processing of network protocols, the switching of cells is done in hardware switching fabrics in ATM networks. A number of designs have been proposed for implementing ATM switches. Although many differences exist among the proposals, the vast majority of them are based on self-routeing multistage interconnection networks. This is because of the desirable features of multi-stage interconnection networks such as self-routeing capability and suitability for VLSI implementation. Existing ATM switch architectures can be classified into two major classes: blocking switches, where blockings of cells may occur within a switch when more than one cell contends for the same internal link, and non-blocking switches, where no internal blocking occurs. A large number of techniques have also been proposed to improve the performance of blocking and non-blocking switches. In this paper, we present an extensive survey of the existing proposals for ATM switch architectures, focusing on their performance issues.  相似文献

We studied changes in cerebral perfusion and oxygen metabolism to elucidate the pathophysiological nature and clinical significance of white matter hyperintensities in Alzheimer's disease (AD). METHODS: Sixteen AD patients (age 71.6 +/- 3.1 yr) whose T2-weighted MR images showed white matter hyperintensities, and 16 age-matched AD patients (age 71.0 +/- 4.3 yr) without white matter hyperintensities were compared. Regional cerebral blood flow (CBF), oxygen metabolism (CMRO2) and oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) were measured by using (15)O steady-state method and PET. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in cognitive impairment between the two groups. Compared to the patients without white matter hyperintensities, those with them had significantly low CBF values and significantly high OEF values in all cortical and white matter regions. However, there were no significant differences in CMRO2 values between the two groups. Severity of white matter hyperintensities correlated with the mean cortical and mean white matter OEF. CONCLUSION: In AD patients, white matter hyperintensities on T2-weighted MR images represent ischemic changes in which oxygen metabolism and function are fairly compensated. These changes are not disease-specific but are age-associated coincidences, as in normal aging with or without vascular risk factors.  相似文献

A 40000-r/min vector-controlled induction motor drive is introduced. The vector control of induction motors has been widely accepted in spindle drives of machine tools where they replace conventional DC motors because of the low maintenance requirements. Another important feature of the AC spindle drive is its high-speed capability. The magnetic encoder is most widely used as the speed detector because it is suited for use in an adverse environment. However, the magnetic encoder with high resolution and a high S/N ratio loses the output pulses at extremely high speed. In the drive system introduced, the conventional vector control is used in the low-speed range, and the vector control without the encoder is used in the high-speed range. We investigated the effect of lead nitrate (0.5, 1.0, 2.0 or 5.0 microM) on the proliferation of cultured bovine aortic endothelial cells. After exposure to lead, the number of cells and the incorporation of [3H]thymidine into the acid-insoluble fraction of the cells were reduced in parallel in a concentration-dependent manner. Histologically, lead treatment resulted in a decrease in the cell number accompanied by a change in the cell shape from polygonal to spindle; however, no degenerative change was observed except in 5.0 microM lead-treated cells. Furthermore, stimulation of [3H]thymidine incorporation by either basic or acidic fibroblast growth factor was significantly reduced by lead. However, the leakage of lactate dehydrogenase into the medium from the cells, a marker of nonspecific cell damage, was not changed by lead. From these results, it was revealed that lead inhibits the proliferation of cultured vascular endothelial cells without nonspecific cell damage. Although lead does not destroy the monolayer of endothelial cells, the metal may exhibit its noxious effect in the repair process of the vascular endothelium.  相似文献
